St. Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer on October 7

As we reflect on the one-year anniversary of the tragic events of October 7, I felt compelled to share a prayer that has resonated with me over the years. I first encountered St. Patrick’s Breastplate Prayer during a morning of meditation with friends, and its message of protection continues to offer me comfort—something I believe many are seeking today.

I encourage you to take a moment in your day to reflect on these words:

Christ with me,

Christ before me,

Christ behind me,

Christ within me,

Christ beneath me,

Christ above me,

Christ on my right,

Christ on my left,

Christ when I lie down,

Christ when I rise,

Christ in the hearts of those who seek understanding,

Christ in the words of those who call for justice,

Christ in the hands that reach out to heal,

Christ in the eyes that see our shared humanity,

Christ in the ears that hear cries of suffering.

God of all, bring together Palestinians and Israelis.

In the shadow of loss, may hope be restored.

In the face of anger, may reconciliation come.

May Your peace dwell in every home,

And Your justice flow like a river through the land.

Amen.
